Operative Hysteroscopy is used to conduct diagnostic examinations and provide therapeutic procedures to the cervix and uterus. During operative hysteroscopy a small scope is inserted vaginally through to the cervix and then into the endometrial cavity of the uterus. This enables the doctor to get an unobstructed view of the cervical canal and the entire uterus.
Operative Hysteroscopy may be used to further examine women who have an abnormal Pap smear result or experience abnormal vaginal bleeding or check for other intrauterine conditions. During the procedure the doctor may take tissue samples and remove Polyps or Fibroids.
Operative Hysteroscopy is an out-patient procedure that requires little or no local anesthetic. After the procedure a woman may experience subtle vaginal cramps and bleeding for 24 to 48 hours.
