AdhesionsPelvic adhesions are bands of scar tissue that form between pelvic organs and tissues, often as a result of surgery, infection, or inflammation. These adhesions can cause organs to stick together, leading to complications such as chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and bowel obstruction. Common causes include pelvic surgeries like C-sections, endometriosis, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Symptoms vary widely, ranging from no noticeable effects to significant pain during intercourse, ovulation, or bowel movements. Diagnosis typically requires laparoscopy, an invasive procedure that allows direct visualization of the adhesions. Treatment often involves laparoscopic surgery to remove the scar tissue or separate adhesions, though recurrence is a common challenge. Managing pelvic adhesions may also include pain relief medications and lifestyle adjustments.
